Accommodation - Ireland - Dublin
Site Admin.
Befitting the city often touted as Europe's 'most happening', there exists an impressive array of quality boutique and designer hotels from which to choose in Dublin. Rates on average are high with little variation between seasons, although additional premiums may be levied during special events, including St. Patrick's Day and the Dublin Horse Show. The offset to high room costs is that the level of service and hospitality sufficiently corresponds with the expense.
With foresight, excellent deals can often be obtained when booking considerably in advance and directly through hotel websites, particularly amongst the better luxury establishments. In addition, many business hotels provide discounted weekend rates, whilst tourist hotels can offer mid-week reductions.
Dublin's luxury hotels are mostly located on the south side of the river, in the areas of Temple Bar and surrounding Trinity College. Accommodation north of the Liffey River is generally more affordable, although the area is experiencing a surge in popularity with the recent opening of a number of premium boutique hotels, including the Clarence and Morrison.
Hotel Service Charges - Service charges levied on hotel room prices in Dublin can be as much as 15%. Whilst most hotels include the charge in the quoted room price, this is not necessarily always the case. To avoid unwelcome surprises, it is advisable to confirm with the hotel the service charge rate and whether this is included in the quoted room price.
