As Europe’s second largest financial centre and the fifth largest city in
Germany, Frankfurt often appears to be besieged with international
businessmen and tourists. As consequence, most quality hotels within the
city are relatively expensive and often booked well in advance.
This is not a city to arrive unannounced, despite the existence of over 200
reputable hotels, demand on room availability is generally strained, being
greatest throughout the periods when the many trade fairs are functioning, a
total of 30 throughout the year. Early reservations are essential to ensure
obtaining one’s hotel of choice. It is also during these periods that room
rates can rise by as much as 50%, assuming of course one can obtain a room.
However, with a principal focus on business patronage, many hotels will
freely negotiate discounted rates for weekends, when the business clientele
is less.
Better hotels
are positioned centrally to the cities major attractions, the Old Town, the
business district, fairgrounds and main train station, or are a relatively
short walk from such. It is fair to say that the primary focus on
accommodation is towards functionality and efficiency, the lack of
personalised service and intimacy often sited as a shortcoming amongst many
of Frankfurt's hotels.

Why is it that as soon
as a hotel classifies itself as 'designer' all effort towards friendliness and
warmth is forsaken? It seems the instruction guide for designer hotels preclude
staff from smiling or expressing any emotion other than disdain, or near on
indifference. In this instance, The Pure is no different. The key is to accept
the shortcomings and embrace the benefits, for which there are many for the more
youthful traveller. For The Pure the focus is primarily form over function,
creating an environment straight from the pages of Wallpaper magazine and attune
to the perceived desires of its stylish clientele. Importantly, the beds are
remarkably comfortable and the breakfast above par. The rooms are smart,
although not overly functional and you will soon find your luggage spread
throughout, such is the shortage of usable storage space which extends notably
to the bathroom. Ultimately, this is not a hotel in which to linger, with
partial exception to the stylish bar, a pleasant locale in which to end the
evenings activities. The location is acceptable, minutes from the railway
station, not such a good thing, but only a five to ten minute walk from the
Opera House, where the better shops and restaurants are located. Outside of Trade Shows, The Pure represents
excellent value given the overall quality, cleanliness, clientele and atmosphere
provided. The sense of value diminishes somewhat when prices are inflated up to
150% during busier periods, yet this is true for nearly all of Frankfurt's
hotels.
