Hotel Promotional Extract - Roughly 150 years ago, the old gas works "Gaswerk" provided the Westend of Hamburg with gas light in streets and houses for the first time. Today, the "Gastwerk" or "guestwork" provides the city and its guests with a new attraction at the old place: Hamburg’s first Design Hotel. The imposing industrial monument of the gas works is the perfect set-up for a surprisingly harmonic set-up of old architecture combined with new design. In the hall with 8,000 square meters flooded with day light, we created a first class hotel with 135 atrium rooms, lofts and suites, generous conference space – and a truly unique atmosphere.

Review - Another member of the design hotel categorization, resulting yet again in an emphasis in form over function. Whilst not as 'way out' as the East, Gastwerk provides exemplary comfortable accommodation in a modern clean environment best attuned for an overnight or inter-week stay. As with most design hotels, rooms can seem claustrophobic after more than a few days occupancy. The Gastwerk also represents exceptional value relative to some of Hamburg's more mainstream hotels, which fall well short of its maintained standards of hospitality. The major drawback regrettably is location,  twenty minutes removed from the city main, this hotel caters predominantly for a business clientele.

Review - Quite clearly the in place to be or be seen in Hamburg. Staying at the East is an event, a twenty four hour emersion into a nightclubesq. environment, surrounded by Hamburg's chic and stylish and a decor that is almost too cool. Standards of accommodation are exceptionally high relative to the very modest prices, ensuring strong popularity and limited availability, it is essential to book well in advance. Rooms are spacious, water beds not to everyone's taste and the absence of decent lighting (not within the design specifications as contrary to the mood) can make working and concentration a little difficult, per chance such activities are on the agenda. Location is not exactly central, but the city's main attractions can be walked to, a short taxi ride the preferable option or free use of the hotel's Smart car fleet, a nice touch. The East Restaurant is one of the city's most popular venues at present, as is the bar with its club like atmosphere and 6am fade-out. Thank goodness for the excellent sound proofing.

Review - An excellent location underlies this very teutonic modern hotel. Clean lines, stylish, understated fittings and a sense of efficiency that caters predominantly towards a corporate clientele. Were it not for the comparatively reasonable prices this hotel would most probably fall under the Luxury / Modern categorisation. Notable are the spacious bathrooms and comfortable beds. Levels of service are professional and courteous. As stylish as this hotel is, the Dorint is quite possibly not a hotel in which to linger, lacking any true sense of warmth despite best intentions, better to hit the shops and cafes which are located but a short stroll away.
